Grimme, Natalis & Co, Braunschweig, Germany acquired 1892 the patents of the Odhner calculator and produced and marketed them under the name Brunsviga (latin for Braunschweig). The company was named Brunsviga Maschinenwerke AG in 1927 and was merged with the Olympia Werke AG, Wilhelmshaven in 1959. The name Brunsviga is strongly connected to Franz Trinks, who lead the development and innovations from the beginning up to 1926.

somebody had the needs for extra digits - either to handle large numbers or to split the input and use it as two separate machines - and replaced the tenths carry wheels with normal calc wheels (from a second machine), thus increasing the input capacity to 17. To accomadate the extra cursors the cover plate was constructed by combining two normal plates.
note: when the carriage is moved to the right, the left-most input digits have no effect, i.e. the machine is not working correct !

the "Deutsches Museum" in München shows a machine labeled Brunviga MR, s/n 31.858 from 1919.
from the catalog: "The model Brunsviga MR was manufactured from 1916 to 1921 with around 3,400 machines built."
The design of this machine is completly different from the later model MR: no divided carriage, switch to the left of the result register (unknown function), stepped housing ...
according to Haase (list 4.1948) the MR was manufactured from 1919 to 1924, total 3.433 machines. The list from Wilberg (1952) shows as the first MR s/n 37.333 from 11.1919. finally: the label on the carriage shows "Braunschweiger Maschinenwerke, Grimme, Natalis & Co., A.-G." . This name was only valid from 1927.
